Progress notes

Orlando CBT Counselor | OCD Support Groups

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” – Henry Ford

It’s back. The Central Florida OCD Support Group is back after a short hiatus. The ‘new and improved’ OCD support group meets bi-weekly instead of monthly (Starting February 2017.) While the group focuses on coping and support, members also set recovery goals to work on in between meetings.

OCD support groups I facilitate are popular because the groups provide a safe place for individuals to discuss the problems and issues related to struggling with OCD. Members share about challenges and experiences while sharing insights and successes in treatment. Members further along in their recovery encourage and support new members thinking about or just beginning treatment. The group is meant to complement treatment and is not a substitute for OCD treatment.

The group is open to any adult struggling with OCD, but members are encouraged to be in treatment with a therapist trained (or have completed treatment) in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). Given the group’s focus, individuals who have completed or are receiving CBT and ERP treatment will benefit the most from the group.

Also a monthly group, OCD 101 will be offered. OCD 101 is a free informational meeting for individuals with OCD and family/friends. Information about OCD and associated disorders (health anxiety, body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding, etc.) The group will also discuss treatment options for individuals, couples, and families struggling with OCD. I will facilitate the meetings. My experience and training include advanced training in the treatment of OCD from the International OCD Foundation and training and certification as a CBT therapist.

The support group meets every other Wednesday from 6:30 pm – 7:45 pm (beginning February 8th, 2017) at my office in Orlando. The fee for the group is $10.00 for each meeting. OCD 101 will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (beginning February 15th) and is free. Please call the office my at 407-324-7979 to make arrangements to attend either group.
